The HSSS crew hosted it’s 1st Annual He Said / sHe Said Holiday Fan Appreciation Party & Show and the wonderful Babycakes in Hillcrest. Owner Christopher Stavros and his staff of lovelies treated us all to fabulous and very adult coffee concoctions and cupcake bites while Aaron and Ophelia spread holiday cheer around the room, recapped their weekends and gave updates on a few news items including President Obama signing the bill to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the floods in Mission Valley, LA and Arizona, Matthew Michael Brown winning Season 2 of The Tester and James Franco going ‘drag’ on the cover of Candy magazine. Then, before everyone’s eyes glossed over with news boredom, we Ho-Ho-Ho’d through a weekend of holiday festivities – yes, bars will be open – and wished everyone a Merry Christmas! We hope you’ve been good little boys and girls, cuz we have Santa on Skype! Read More
This week, Ophelia & Aaron got down and dirty with political insider, activist and serial entrepreneur, Stampp Corbin, owner and publisher of San Diego’s newest LGBT media outlet, San Diego LGBT Weekly. He’s been everywhere, done everything (and then some,) rubs elbows with the Obamas and works at the forefront of national LGBT politics & activism with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC.) Stampp shared with us some very personal, funny and dare we say scandalous insights, from having good times in college trailer parks to walking the halls of the West Wing and everything in between. Get to know the real Stampp Corbin and learn what’s ahead for San Diego’s latest LGBT newsmagazine as it prepares to launch its online portal with a bang in 2011. Definitely a must-watch webisode, and only HSSS.tv has it.

It took 17 years for the United States Congress to decide that our gay and lesbian service-members are equal human beings to their straight counterparts. Yet, still 206 members of Congress voted against this.
It is time to take names.
Many of these 206 members of Congress who voted against valuing our gay troops blood and sacrifice as equal to their straight counterparts feared that repealing DADT would lead to an avalanche of gay rights across this Country. I expect nothing less.
It is veterans who won this battle. Many honorable organizations undoubtedly provided the outlet and tiresome behind-the-scenes work, but as we saw in 1993, that was not enough. I am confident that in the spirit of Harvey Milk’s cry of “you must come out,” it was our veterans’ willingness to brave the scrutiny of the media and the opposition that got us to this historic day. They selflessly lent their face to this movement. Read More
This week, the HSSS crew headed to the gayborhood’s North Pole equivalent – Hillcrest ACE Hardware, the one-stop shop of everything you need, thought you needed or didn’t realize you needed yet, where the mere mention of Ophelia’s name gets you a super duper discount. Set amidst the winter wonderland of Christmas trees & holiday decor, Aaron & Ophelia shared some of ACE’s fantastic stocking stuffer ideas for every family member while ho, ho, ho-ing their way through news and hot topics including: Blake Edwards passing, the online chatter surrounding Michael Portantino‘s suicide, the new 60-second HIV test, Hollywood awards season nods, the new DADT repeal bill and HRC’s planned gift shop in Harvey Milk’s old photography storefront. The duo drank their way through weekend events like F Street’s Naughty XXXMas Treat shopping sale, Family Matters Annual Holiday Party, A Very Babbette Christmas and the GlamDisco Ball at Lips to benefit Stonewall Citizens Patrol.
