He Said: ‘Haute Lot’ September 2010

September 2, 2010  |  events, gay san diego, hesaid  |  No Comments

It’s the end of summer and seriously, it doesn’t really feel like we’ve had one. Maybe I’ve just been so busy that it’s completely crept by me. But, I already feel the season changing – we’re moving into shorter days, longer nights and the homestretch to the holidays. Unreal. This summer has been a blast though. We’ve had parties and festivals galore, some DVR worthy off-season TV like Top Chef, True Blood, Real Housewives of New Jersey, Big Brother and Whale Wars and several major events that draw seemingly everyone from Sausalito to South Africa to our little slice of west coast paradise. But, don’t think we’re done yet. September is another month full of parties, events, festivals and fundraisers that, if you’re smart, you’ll enjoy before you break out the boxes of gaudy bobbles and settle in for the holiday hibernation. Oh, and don’t forget, this year especially, EVERY vote couts. If you’re not registered to vote, do it now! You can even vote by mail from the comfort of your own home. I don’t care how you do it, just make sure you do. VOTING MATTERS.

The Nicky Awards: Sweetie, You’re ‘Outstanding’

August 18, 2010  |  events, gay san diego, hesaid  |  No Comments

By now, you’ve seen the schlew of posts, events & status updates (ours included) filling up your Facebook news feeds daily reminding you to VOTE, VOTE, VOTE for The Nicky Awards. Yes, those shiny little golden statuettes – cheekily dubbed San Diego’s LGBT Oscars – are a coveted lot by the local Gay Glitterati. And rightfully so, because for at least one night, almost every business, service, person and place in the gayborhood gets their due 15 minutes that will forever be etched in the archives of San Diego’s LGBT history…and, thanks to Al Gore, cyber space. Ophelia, Eve & I backstage at San Diego Pride

Well, we made it through July unscathed! Normally one of the hottest months of the year, we San Diegans have endured some rather hazy gray days, a series of tremors (orearthquake lites”,) the motley mayhem of both Comic Con and Over The Line and some rather atypical D-List Divatude trying to throw a wrench in our city’s Pride festivities with Wiggate. But, now that the days are clearing up, the sun is breaking through, the earth seems a wee steady for a spell, the Jedis, Siths and Stormtroopers have headed off to Naboo, and former reality TV celebutards have packed their egos and hissy fits and boarded the Amtrak back to Never “Ever” Land, we can inhale deep, pop that booty out & drop it like it’s haute all the way through this badass month of August. But, do yourself a favor and go a little easy…we don’t need anymore episodes of Intervention being filmed in America’s Finest City, now do we.

He Said: ‘Haute Lot’ July 2010

He Said ‘approved’ San Diego events in and around the gayborhood during San Diego Pride month. And, please people, read and heed: sunscreen is your friend.

This month leaves little room for downtime. We’ve got 4th of July, Comic Con and San Diego Pride on the brain. And, throw into the mix a host of other activities and events to partake in and you’ve got one full plate of FUN. Many of you sun goddesses will be spending ample time outdoors at the beach, in the pool or at the park bronzing those bods. Tanlines are sexy, melanoma scars…not so much. Do yourself a favor and use an SPF. Your skin will thank you for it, I promise.  Read More
