The hunkalicious fixture in the DJ booth at Urban Mo’s, Taj Al-Taji aka DJ Taj, joined Aaron & Ophelia at the Brass Rail square table to chat about his life, career and new love. Taj has been working the DJ circuit in San Diego’s nightclub scene for more than a decade, spinning everywhere from Numbers and the old Club Montage, to big gigs & special events at places like the Hard Rock Hotel and House of Blues. When he’s not behind the mixing board, he moonlights as a sassy server slinging plates & smiles at Hillcrest hot spot, Mo’s. Get to know this genuine, funny, talented gentleman whose “personality” is, as Ophelia says, “omazing.” Read More

They Said 10/25/11

October 26, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego, News, theysaid  |  No Comments

This week’s They Said had quite a crowd at our Brass Rail studio, and with so much to talk about, it’s good that the crew had some audience feedback and participation. Courtney, Ian, Kelly, Jerimiah & Alejandra had some big topics to dive into, including relationships, dating, sex while dating, the new Steve Jobs biography, Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis and her new book called Whateverland and what makes San Diego the luckiest city in America. Then, Producer Kurt posed a good question who do you go to for advice, that got some rather interesting responses from the panel. Finally, Ian wrapped up with some big upcoming events and holiday happenings post-Halloween happening all over the city.  Read More

LIVE from Urban Mo’s 10/21/11

October 23, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego, News  |  No Comments

Braving some mad crazy street construction, and hotties in hard hats, to hit the Copa Bar studio at Urban Mo’s, Ophelia showed up with quite a bit to share about what’s happening in her neighborhood. Aaron then turned the topic to masturbation causing clogged drains and the conversation immediately went a little NC-17 as we reminisced about visits to book stores and bathhouses in cities other than San Diego. Also, celebrating #SpiritDay by wearing purple, we discussed bullying in all forms and shared some personal stories about being bullied in school and how those experiences helped to strengthen our character and shape who we are today. Parents, take note, you are responsible for your children’s behavior – both the bullies & the bullied. If your kid is a bully, teach them why it’s wrong. If your child is being bullied, support them with every resource available and all the unconditional love you have in you because losing even one life to suicide due to bullying is one too many!   Read More

LIVE with Nicole Murray Ramirez 10/20/11

October 20, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego, News  |  No Comments

Making his second appearance on HSSS, one of only two guests so far to do that, Nicole Murray Ramirez - known by many as Queen Mother Nicole the Great – graced our Brass Rail studio for some lively chat about LGBT history, politics, drag queens and Halloween. Never at a loss for words, Nicole gave us a bit of a gay history lesson, with much thanks to the native Americans who consider LGBTs “Two Spirited.” After regaling us with stories of his travels around the country as the head of the International Imperial Court System, he dove right in to San Diego politics, the Mayor’s race and what he thinks is ahead for LGBTs in both local and national politics. Winding it down, he shared some of his fun upcoming seasonal events, SCARY BINGO at Bourbon Street to benefit The Center & ANoteToMyKid.com and the hugely popular Nightmare on Normal Street Halloween party & costume contest. Do you have yours picked out yet? Read More

They Said 10/18/11

October 18, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego, News, theysaid  |  No Comments

There was a “glaucoma” outbreak on the set of They Said and Jerimiah & Courtney had to take their “medicine.” Once the after-effects took hold, the crew hit the square table for quite a lively chat about about all the news & hot topics fit to dish, including the Occupy San Diego movement, the Clinton Foundation concert featuring Lady Gaga, the Real Housewives of New Jersey debacle, Guiliana Rancic’s breast cancer admission, the MLK Jr. sculpture dedication in Washington D.C. and, of course, the medical marijuana activist who threatened to jump off a bridge in San Diego…tying up traffic in Hillcrest for eight hours. Jerimiah & Courtney remained calm, cool, collected – and a little sleepy-eyed – while Ian talked all about the “new” Martinis Above Fourth, Alejandra dished all about the Catholic church and Kelly coveted her new iPhone 4S. Big upcoming events include MARYAH’s Harvest Howl to benefit the Youth Housing Project, Nicole’s scary Halloween-themed BINGO and, of course, Nightmare on Normal StreetRead More
