Pre-Pride LIVE from Redwing 7/15/11

July 15, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

The crew hit North Park happy hour hot spot Redwing again this week for our pre-Pride showstravaganza! Aaron knocked back a few tall boys (and maybe a Bloody Mary) while getting us caught up on the news that’s now including the woman who castrated her husband and chucked his penis in the garbage disposal, the Target CEO‘s campaign donation to Michele Bachmann, the drug-resistent superstrain of gonorrhea, the primetime Emmy nominations and the 36th Annual Nicky Award nominations. Then, Ophelia took to the mic for a new segment, Ophelia’s Flames & Fans, where she got stern and serious about the San Diego Pride organization, its operation and Board of Directors. We finished up with some big weekend gayborhood events like Fur Ball at Numbers, Pride Hangover Brunch at R Gang Eatery, High Tea at the Andaz San Diego Hotel & Church at Babycakes. The volunteers from Stonewall Citizens Patrol will be out all weekend helping keep the streets safe for Pride weekend so if you see them, make sure to give ‘em a wave. And, don’t forget to sign up for AIDS Walk San Diego, it’s right around the corner. Happy Pride, everyone!  Read More

Just in time for San Diego Pride weekend, Aaron & Ophelia welcomed one drag diva extraordinaire to the HSSS.tv Brass Rail studio, the one and only Ladonna Monroe. An established fixture in the Southern California drag scene for more than 15 years, Ladonna has amassed a cult-like following thanks to her wit, style and spot-on impersonations of stars like Lucile Ball, Annie Lennox and Reba McEntire, among others. She’s been active as one of the headline names of Dreamgirls Revue, currently hosting their popular Saturday night show at Bourbon Street. Ladonna talked life, drag and Jagermeister love while giving us the inside dish on all the queens on the scene including the “Who’s Who of So Cal Drag.”  Read More

Back at the roundtable in our Brass Rail studio, They Said had a lot of news and events to cover after last week’s little vacay. Recapping weekends filled with bartending, barbecuing, girl fights and sunburns, Jerimiah, Kelly, Courtney, Ian & Alejandra gave their take on the latest big news topics including the Hillcrest fire, Casey Anthony trial & verdict, U.S. Women’s Soccer, the Royal visit to California, Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World scandal, the prison chaplain arrested for paying inmates for oral sex & the 16-pound baby born in Texas. When Producers asked “If you caught your BFF’s partner cheating on them, would you tell them,” there were some very surprising responses from the crew. Ian finished out with big events including Food Truck Fabulousness to benefit AIDS Walk San Diego, San Diego Pride events around Hillcrest + more. July 8, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  1 Comment

Back from a nice long holiday weekend with Producers Joey & Kurt in tow, we descended upon the pretty much world famous Hole in Pt. Loma for our weekly dish of news & views with a little booze. San Diego’s getting hot, noted by Aaron’s persistent sweating, but with bevies in hand, we recapped our Fourth of July weekends and moved on to hot topics: the Casey Anothony verdict, the passing of Jason “Cowboy” Huggins, the federal court’s DADT discharge stop order and the 3-alarm Hillcrest fire that displaced several residents and businesses including gayborhood staple Obelisk Book Shoppe. Then, Aaron & Ophelia discussed first date etiquette and gave their personal do’s & do not’s. Finally, after sweating through a second shirt & mini pitcher of beer, Aaron wrapped up with upcoming events including Bear Happy Hour at Pecs, Ophelia’s Wet ‘n Wilder fundraiser for the HYC, Food Truck Fabulousness to benefit AIDS Walk & the Center’s Champagne Breakfast to kick-off Pride. And don’t forget, you can join the He Said / sHe Said & They Said AIDS Walk team NOW… you’ll get a sexy new team t-shirt to wear for the walk, too.  Read More
