Congratulations
to our brothers and sisters in New York State who now have the freedom to marry the one they love! I watched the LiveStream on pins & needles and listened to some very passionate, powerful speeches, including Senator Grisanti who, despite his strong Catholic conviction, believed that NO ONE should be denied the right to marry the one they love and receive all the rights & protections afforded that union. Shortly after 10:30PM (Eastern time) on Friday, June 24, 2011, four days shy of the 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village – the riots that ignited the LGBT equality movement – New York State Senate, in a vote of 33-29, approved marriage equality. LIVE with Charlene 6/22/11

June 22, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

This week, Aaron & Ophelia had the pleasure of welcoming 80′s pop music icon, Charlene, to the HSSS hot seat. From top of the charts, to palling around with Michael, Stevie & Ms Ross, to Top of the Pops & Solid Gold, Charlene’s been to paradise, but has never been to the Brass Rail…until now. Charlene’s smooth, angelic voice with R&B flair lit up the radio waves with I’ve Never Been To Me in the early 80′s and since has had a whirlwind life filled with family, candy shops & writing, both music and books. The singular hit she made famous not once, but twice, has reemerged in current pop culture having been immortalized on the small screen by Just Jack on Will & Grace, in movies like Shrek the Third and Priscilla: Queen of the Desert and on the gay dance scene, remixed seven ways to Sunday by some of the biggest DJs on the circuit. Get to know this truly one-of-a-kind, sweet & sassy lady and what’s in store for her in the future, only on HSSS.tv.  Read More

They Said 6/21/11

Do not attempt to adjust your screens, what you’re seeing is actually correct. With Jerimiah‘s white legs at the immediate left & Courtney dead center, They Said switched up the seating arrangement and added a few new segments to the mix of chat-worthy hot topics on the roundtable. This week, the crew shared highlights from big weekend events like the Amazing High Heel Race and dished news including the ongoing Tracy Morgan gay sensitivity saga, the death of a Jackass cast member & Anthony Weiner‘s resignation. Then, producers posed a few questions & each ‘They Said-er’ gave their perspective on punishments for drinking & driving and what one trait from the opposite sexual orientation they most wish they had. You’ll be surprised at their responses. Tune in for all the juicy deets + more. Read More

LIVE from Redwing 6/17/11

June 17, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

This week’s raucous talk at Redwing was a riot, but not like that in Vancouver over the Canuck’s Stanley Cup loss, which we did touch on. And, it was a welcome home show as one of our favorite Military men was in attendance after just returning from a long deployment (thank you for your service, Sir.) We laughed, drank and chatted our way through hot topics & happening including new furniture purchases, Cox Communications, the flag football championship, a graduating design pup, politics, Weiners and straight men taking on lesbian personas (Gay Girl in Damascus & LezGetReal.) And, that was just the first half. Remember, knowledge is power. Help Lead The Way by getting tested for HIV – it really is no longer optional.  Read More

LIVE with Lead The Way SD 6/15/11

June 15, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

This week’s LIVE in-studio guests are San Diego VIPs in a big way. On numerous shows, both Aaron & Ophelia have stressed the importance of being tested for HIV, so we were happy to welcome several of the personalities behind the newly launched Lead The Way campaign, Isabel Cruz owner of Barrio Star, Kinsee Morlan reporter for San Diego CityBeat and Dr. Susan Little from UCSD. Lead The Way is a first of its kind study orchestrated by UC San Diego’s School of Medicine that aims to get everyone in 92103 + 92104 to answer the question “Would you or wouldn’t you take an HIV test?” If you would, LTW offers a free, confidential HIV Rapid Test that gives you your results in 10 minutes. If you would not, they’d like you to fill out a short, confidential survey. By participating in this study, you are helping them better overcome barriers to HIV testing. If Lead The Way can get everyone to test, they can get treatment to everyone who wants it. And, effective treatment can reduce the chances of HIV transmission by up to 90%. Dr. Little explained why, after 30 years of AIDS with still no vaccine, studies like Lead The Way are so vital in helping to prevent further spread of the disease. Kinsee, Isabel & our own Aaron then shared why they said “yes” to being part of the study’s promotional campaign, leaders in the community helping to “Lead The Way.” People, knowledge is power. We at HSSS would get tested. Would you? Read More
