LIVE from Bourbon Street Bar & Grill 4/29/11

April 29, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

HSSS had a fab audience of friends, fans and a few Nuns of the Tortured Heart praying for our salvation during our last LIVE from Bourbon Street webcast of April. Everyone spent the day getting their eat on for Dining Out For Life and Team Bourbon Street was busy readying the grill for a packed night of drinking & dining to help fight HIV and AIDS. This week’s news & views were all over the map. Aaron & Ophelia talked about everything from Royal weddings and rodeos to the pros & cons of popularity. From The Voice, Big Brother and Amazing Race to Mama’s Day, the San Diego Police Department and sauerbraten. Poor Ophelia was having a little wardrobe malfunction but that didn’t stop her from getting excited about Wills & Kate’s pending nuptials in the early morning hours followed by a weekend jaunt to Palm Springs. Our thoughts are with those who’ve been affected by the devastating storms and tornados throughout the Southeast.  Read More

One of the best culinary events of the year, Mama’s Day at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, is right around the corner (May 6) and what better way to share it with viewers & fans than to chat with the man helping make it all happen, Alberto Cortes Medina, Executive Director of Mama’s Kitchen. Having recently celebrated their 20th Anniversary, Alberto talked with Aaron & Ophelia about Mama’s mission, Mama’s Day, the needs of their more than 1,500 clients county-wide and how you can get involved. Mama’s Kitchen provides nutritious home delivered meals, three meals a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to those struggling with HIV/AIDS and cancer who are unable to cook for themselves. Along with the delivery service, the organization also runs a food pantry (Mama’s Pantry) for low income persons with AIDS who are mobile but can’t afford groceries. Mama’s Kitchen believes that every person is entitled to the basic necessity of life – nutritious food. We at HSSS couldn’t agree more. Get to know Alberto and Mama’s Kitchen and make sure to get your tickets for Mama’s Day. Read More

They Said 4/26/11

With Ian away to attend to some important affairs, Executive Producer Aaron joined Courtney, Alejandra, Jeremiah & Kelly for this week’s dose of opinions on the news & hot topics happening now. After recapping weekends filled with brunches, Easter eggs and baby furniture construction, the discussion got very serious talking about Kobe Bryant‘s heated on-court anti-gay slur, straight rapper Lil B‘s “I’m Gay” album, DOMA, ENDA, the brutal beating of a trans woman in a Baltimore McDonalds and compassion for our fellow man. Kelly finished up with some fun upcoming events including Dining Out For Life this Thursday, the always awesome Adams Avenue Roots Festival and the annual Women’s Fest at The Center. Hurry back, Ian – we miss you.  Read More

LIVE from Bourbon Street Bar & Grill 4/22/11

April 22, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

Live from Bourbon Street Bar & Grill this week looks a little different as Ophelia took some creative liberties on the set, primarily to better accentuate her ample cleavage. With cocktails & yards of beer at the ready, Aaron & Miss O recapped their jam packed weeks of football and FourSquare parties, potato wedges, broken phones & game nights with friends. Then the conversation turned to the fine art (and utter annoyance) of “cock-blocking,” cake pops, hoarding and Happy Endings. The HSSS crew is saving their calories & stretch jeans for Dining Out For Life on April 28th where we’ll be eating our way through the city, including a nosh stop at The Center to sample all the San Diego Food Truck offerings. Dont forget to be an athletic supporter and head out to the Saturday Flag Football and Sunday Softball games. Then on Mondays, catch He Said / sHe Said & They Said filming LIVE at Brass Rail starting at 6:30PM.  Read More

LIVE with GlitzGlam 4/20/11

Our Monday night Brass Rail studio got a little more glamourous this week as Aaron & Ophelia welcomed very special guest Jesse Thomas Greika aka GlitzGlam. One of the fiercest androgy-drag performers to hit San Diego in recent years, Glitz is a noticeably statuesque queen on the scene often donning massive platform heels, vibrantly colored hair & make-up, corsets, glitter gowns and one sassy-sexy persona. The other half of Mr. San Diego Leather 2010 Anthony Rollar, Glitz made a big splash by taking the first-ever So You Think You Can Drag title at Lips restaurant last year and since then has been on a roll, focusing heavily on charity, volunteering & giving back. Glitz organized a massive fundraising event at Lips for Stonewall Citizens Patrol which raised over $2,400 for the all-volunteer community safety group. And, on top of dressing up and dragging out, Glitz volunteers for several local non-profits including The San Diego LGBT Community Center and Film Out San Diego, among others. Press play and get to know this fierce diva, up close & personal. Read More
