Like the old days…

So, I saw an old picture of me that some high school friends posted on Facebook a few days ago. One of them commented underneath:

“oh, make it like the old days.”

I thought back to my high school days and reminisced on the things that stood out to me. I remembered being spit at and called a “fag” in 9th grade when I lived in Louisiana. I remember my Aunt warning me not to ride home with anyone – except family – because she heard stories of what happened to other kids who were thought to be gay. I remember being scared to wait outside with the rest of the kids at school and asking my coach if he would wait until my family came to get me. Read More

LIVE on a Boat w/Chris Shaw 7/8/10

Today’s webcast almost didn’t happen when Aaron was sure we’d be in a torrential downpour on a canoe somewhere in the middle of the Pacific and thought we should “change venues.” But, alas, the always amazing Chris Shaw, Mayor of Hillcrest and truly one of our city’s most respected and dedicated ‘funtrepreneurs,’ showed the entire HSSS crew his signature hospitality aboard his beautiful boat docked in the marina – tequila included. We recapped our Fourth of July weekends and Chris shared with us his business roots that have, today, culminated in the successful Gayborhood establishments Urban Mo’s, Baja Betty’s and Gossip Grill. Chris has been instrumental in helping put on this year’s San Diego Pride parade & festival, July 17-18. We had so much fun rockin’ & swayin’ on the boat that we completely forgot our dramamine. And, Chris was such a fantastic guest that he even answered Bo & Joey’s Producer Questions at the end of the show. You’ve got to watch to hear how he answered. EPIC!

Sneak Peak: LIVE from the Hard Rock Hotel 7/1/10

Kicking off San Diego Pride month at the amazing Hard Rock Hotel in Downtown was more fun that we anticipated. This show had the largest live crowd, both online and in person, that we’ve had – and boy did they get an earful. We dished everything from sweaty drag queens and San Diego Magazine to trips to Home Depot, Comic Con and sausages…of all kinds. This is just a sneak peak of all the action that the LIVE viewers experienced.

Joey & Moe for the NOH8 Campaign

As a card carrying member and the self-proclaimed President of the San Diego Chapter of the National Organization of Lesbros, I understand that through the years it has been tough to find a good spot for the ladies. Somewhere fun, where lesbians and straight women alike can go and hang out, and not have to worry about the boys running them out. Enter the power house team that brought you Urban Mo’s & Baja Betty’s with a new lair whose purpose is just that. The faces of this new venture, Gossip Grill, are none other than Stefan Chicolte and Moe Girton. Both have been staples in our community for quite some time and clearly, this crew is here to stay!
