He Said: ‘Haute Lot’ July 2010

He Said ‘approved’ San Diego events in and around the gayborhood during San Diego Pride month. And, please people, read and heed: sunscreen is your friend.

This month leaves little room for downtime. We’ve got 4th of July, Comic Con and San Diego Pride on the brain. And, throw into the mix a host of other activities and events to partake in and you’ve got one full plate of FUN. Many of you sun goddesses will be spending ample time outdoors at the beach, in the pool or at the park bronzing those bods. Tanlines are sexy, melanoma scars…not so much. Do yourself a favor and use an SPF. Your skin will thank you for it, I promise.  Read More

LIVE from Bourbon Street 6/24/10

This webcast is dedicated to our good friend Todd Chanley who passed away suddenly earlier this week. Today’s raucous little chat fest from one of gay San Diego’s institutions, Bourbon Street bar, was a riot. Ophelia and Aaron got a sneak peak of the bar’s new patio that will make its debut just in time for San Diego Pride (July 17-18.) The naughty talk started with the introduction of the ‘Chili Dog’ and moved to a lesson on A4A vs real inches in the ‘personality’ department. Topics covered included San Diego LGBT media outlets and several local events such as Arte! Vida! Tequila! celebrating Frida Kahlo‘s 102nd Birthday and Six Pack Saturday presented by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. We shared our Best of Craigslist postings and talked with special guests Aya Ting & Alexander Williams, the reigning (and first ever) Ms. & Mr. Trans San Diego. We had a little technical ‘glitch’ toward the end of the webcast. Don’t get your pantie hamster in a tizzy. The last 20 minutes were recorded. We’ll get it uploaded shortly so stay tuned!

Top Chef Tickler: Rich Sweeney’s R Gang Eatery & Season 7 Premieres TONIGHT

Yes, I’m biased. But, trust me, there’s good reason. I mean, Rich is the shit! If there’s one thing I can say about Chef extraordinaire Rich Sweeney it’s that, when it comes to the kitchen, he doesn’t dick around. Sure, he may be a relatively young chef and, ya, perhaps his stint on season 5 of Bravo TV‘s Emmy-winning Top Chef didn’t see him make it past round four of eliminations. But he isn’t letting that define who he is as a person…or what he puts out on a plate. Rich is a die-hard and dedicated culinarian who’s just as much a pupil of his craft as he is a master. No Foo Fighter or s’mores were ever going to get the best of him and what he’s accomplished in the almost two years since the show aired is proof that this wunderkind has style and staying power – one only need partake in the R Gang Eatery experience to appreciate that. We couldn’t have picked a more perfect season to launch this here little web site. School’s out, it’s just before Pride, days are longer, weather’s turning from gray to YAY and everyone’s ready to hit the beaches and pools for summer fun. There’s so much ‘gay’ going on in America’s Finest City that, often, I’m so overwhelmed with the sheer volume of new places to go to, parties to check out and fundraisers to attend that, inevitably, I forget some things that are truly He Said-worthy. But when I do remember all that ‘stuff’ I want to share with you, I’ve got quick fingers (and a blog) so you’ll be informed and up-to-date, AHizz-style, in between our weekly webcasts.
