Being the “athletic supporters” we are, the HSSS crew welcomed a man of many talents to our Jake’s on 6th studio, Mike Paganelli, the 2011 Commissioner of the San Diego American Flag Football League. With the SDAFFL season already underway, we chatted about the growth of the league, the teams, the camaraderie, the sport itself and what it means for LGBT athletes and fans around the city & country. But, the chat-up didn’t stop at football. Mike is a board member of MARYAH (Metro Area Realtors for Young Adult Housing) and Chairman of their Third Annual MARYAH Poker Tournament. Taking place March 3rd at Top of the Park, this fun & festive poker night raises needed funds for LGBT youth supportive housing in San Diego, including The Center’s Sunburst youth housing project. HSSS will be filming LIVE on location from the tournament and will probably get in on some of the card playing action. Big prizes – other than trophies & kudos – include iPads, gift certificates, get aways and more. See you there! Read More
Live from our Jake’s on 6th Monday night studio, we had the pleasure of talking with two women that know a thing or two about Hillcrest, Nancy Moors & Ann Garwood founders of HillQuest.com that handy dandy pocket book of info, the HillQuest Urban Guide. Partners of 10 years, both in business and in life, Ann & Nancy aren’t hard to miss tooling around the neighborhood in one of two Gem electric cars dropping off guides to local businesses, chatting with residents and helping clean-up the the streets and sidewalks of our favorite little San Diego community. We got to know these two lovely ladies, learned quite a bit of Hillcrest history and got some insight into their hopes for the neighborhood in the future. The new HillQuest Urban Guide will be available this coming June – look for it at shops, bars and restaurants all over. Read More
Webcasting LIVE from San Diego’s more-than-just-cupcake heaven, Babycakes, for the entire month of February, Aaron & Ophelia were completely deprived of the creamy, sweet, cupcakey deliciousness on-set while production scarfed ‘em down behind the scenes. It was torture, but we’ll be back for the Red Velvet Hot Cakes served during brunch. Sipping some vino, we recapped our weeks and investigative reporter Ophelia shared the details of her recent Craigslist sexperiment with “macho” alter ego, Ricky. The findings might surprise you…or not. We talked Super Bowl Sunday, airline travel, childhood memories, family birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Singles’ Awareness Day, San Diego’s flag football season & more. Read More
If you don’t know Stampp Corbin, you should. We had him on the show a couple months ago and he was a riot! Stampp’s an international business & community leader, philanthropist, political activist and one of my favorite oenophiles – we both like white, chilled, thank you. He’s walked the hallways of Stanford, Harvard and the White House and isn’t the least bit pretentious about it. He’s a smart, savvy and driven entrepreneur who has founded, run and sold several multi-million dollar IT companies. He’s served on the Boards of the Human Rights Campaign, Easter Seals and Mount Carmel Hospitals, was a National Advisor to the Small Business Administration during the Clinton Administration and the Co-Chair of the National LGBT Leadership Council for Obama’s Presidential campaign. And, even though Stampp is an out and proud gay man now living in San Diego and producing the city’s only LGBT weekly newsmagazine, the recently launched San Diego LGBT Weekly, he’s rubbed elbows with some big-time leading ladies the likes of Hillary (Clinton,) Michelle (Obama) and two-time Tony Award-winner Tonya (Pinkens,)…and that’s just a few of them.
