March 11, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

While our webisode last week from the MARYAH Poker Tournament was on the ‘official’ HSSS anniversary date, the entire crew, and several of our favorite fans, headed back to where it all started – #1 Fifth Avenue, the scene of our very first He Said sHe Said LIVE From webcast. It’s amazing what a year can do. We reminisced about all that’s changed and how the show has grown. After strolling down memory lane, two clinks and a tear later, Aaron (who was inspired by Ophelia,) shared his ‘Standing Up & Speaking Out’ story of confronting a bigoted Girl Scout Mom in front of a local grocery story. Then, we recapped our Bump! experience as the show debuted this week on Logo, talked San Diego American Flag Football, Dining Out For Life, San Diego Magazine, Leather Pride Weekend and more. A big condragulations to Commish Carlos Marquez who’s leaving San Diego for a fabulous new job up in LA. We’ll get all the insider deets direct from the horse’s mouth when he joins us as as guest later this month. And finally, a big Thank You to all of you who listen to & watch us every week. It’s because of you that we continue to do what we do.  Read More

LIVE with Ronnie Kerr 3/8/11

March 8, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  1 Comment

For our first “LIVE With” webcast from our new Monday night studio at the Brass Rail - the oldest gay bar in San Diego – we welcomed some San Diego fresh meat in the form of actor/writer/producer and all-around sweetheart, Ron Smith, aka Ronnie Kerr. Ronnie’s one month new to America’s Finest City, having moved here at the urging of several friends. We got to know this genuine beefcake who, on top of writing, producing & starring in movies, also dabbles in fitness as a personal trainer. Ronnie settled in the guest seat, beer in hand, to share with us his career, talk about some of his favorite roles, from action flicks “Absolute Aggression” to stints on “One Life To Live” and “V.I.P.” to starring roles in “Regarding Billy” and “Shut Up And Kiss Me,” a semi-autobiographical movie he wrote and starred in that’s available on Netflix for streaming now. He’s excited to get involved in the San Diego LGBT community, and being a fan of Country music and cowboy boots, Ophelia’s determined to rope him into the Rodeo. Ronnie shared with us some exclusive breaking news about two new films he will write and star in, “Gym Bunnies” and “Safe Word” both due out next year. He alos loves kids and Aaron thinks his next movie should be about the adoption process for LGBT parents. Hey, never know, it could happen.   Read More

LIVE from MARYAH’s Annual Poker Tournament

March 5, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  1 Comment

Celebrating our one year anniversary, the whole HSSS crew hit up Top of the Park to webcast live from MARYAH’s 3rd Annual Poker Tournament & Casino Night, a fundraiser for The Center’s Youth Housing Project. And, what an anniversary celebration it was. Ophelia had an eventful week culminating in a confrontation with some snooty suburban housewife over marriage equality – and it happened in the Target parking lot. Then, we chatted with several local celebs attending the event including tournament co-chair Mike Paganelli, City Commissioner & Center staffer Carlos Marquez, fabulous activist & Navy veteran Ben Gomez and a host of other beautiful men and women who came out to have fun and support the cause. And, while Ophelia didn’t take the grand prize for the Poker Tournament, Aaron did take home the big prize for the Blackjack tables. Hopefully he won’t drink it all before the rest of us get some. Happy Anniversary!  Read More

LIVE with “Papa Frank” Jones 3/1/11

March 1, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

**Due to a camera malfunction, there is only audio for this week’s “LIVE with” episode. We apologize, as we know you were anxious to see our pretty faces. So please sit back, relax & enjoy the talk, podcast style. This week’s “LIVE with,” our last from the fabulous Jake’s on 6th Wine Bar before we move to our new Monday night studio, we learned all things Family Matters, Latino Services & Positive Action from Center volunteer extraordinaire, Frank Jones, aka Papa Frank. A Military veteran who’s lived in San Diego for 30+ years, Papa Frank is “the man” behind the women of Family Matters & Latino Services at The Center. Frank filled us in on what these vital programs provide our community and shared with us some important events and activities he’s involved with, including the Kids Clothing & Toy Swap, Big LGBT Community Yard Sale, Dining Out For Life, Positive Action workshop series, men’s & women’s HIV+ support services for the LGBT & military communities and the monthly community food distribution. We got a very sincere, personal sense of the true value of “community” listening to Frank share his experience working with LGBT families who’ve been affected by these hard economic times. Thanks Frank for being our guest and thanks to Jennifer, Richard, Jake, Mama & the entire Jake’s on 6th Family for being such wonderful Monday night hosts. We’ll be back soon, so save some vino for us! Read More
