HSSS 100th Webcast LIVE from Babycakes

May 20, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  2 Comments

In a very last minute location change, that Hillcrest sweet spot Babycakes came to the rescue so the entire HSSS crew could pull off one hell of a 100th episode. With many friends & fans in tow to watch the sass unfold, Aaron and Ophelia kicked it off by recapping their weeks that primarily revolved around birthday drinks, speeches and perhaps a little late night drunk dialing. This week’s hot topics included Arnold’s ‘love child,’ the sale of Hillcrest’s historic Park Manor Suites hotel, HSSS.tv’s on-air diss by KUSI News and the recent passing of community friend Kyle Tribble. After reminiscing where HSSS has been over the past 100 webisodes, we brought back one of our favorite segments, WTF (What The Fuck,) where Ophelia got very serious about San Diego Pride and its plethora of issues. Aaron geared his WTF toward San Francisco’s bill to ban male circumcision. We finished up with some fun producer questions & several events in and around the gayborhood. A HUGE shout out to all of you viewers for making this show happen. It’s because of you that we continue to do what we do. Thank you & here’s to 100 more!  Read More

LIVE with Ruth Henricks 5/17/11

May 17, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

This week, Aaron & Ophelia sat down with San Diego’s Queen of Giving, the fabulous Ruth Henricks, founder of Special Delivery San Diego. Ruth joined us at our Brass Rail studio to talk about the meal delivery and food pantry service for those living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, MS and other critical illnesses. Celebrating 20 years next month, Special Delivery got it’s start when Ruth, owner/operator of Mission Hills favorite, The Huddle, noticed one of her regular customers, Scott, wasn’t showing up for lunch. “If I’m not here, I’m not eating,” proclaimed Scott who was sick with HIV and too weak to cook for himself. Ruth spent the next several months trying to locate Scott so that she could bring hearty, nutritious meals to him at home and in that search, Special Delivery was born. Now serving more than 150 clients a week through the meal delivery service and more at Special Delivery’s food pantry, the all-volunteer organization does more than just give life through nutrition, they give love. Watch to find out more about Ruth, her fantastic story of caring and compassion, Special Delivery and how you can get involved as a volunteer or donor.  Read More

LIVE from Side Bar 5/13/11

May 13, 2011  |  Episodes, gay san diego  |  No Comments

Thanks to the fabulous girls at J Public Relations, HSSS headed down to San Diego’s Gaslamp for a very special LIVE From Side Bar, just in time for the downtown hotspot’s big 2nd Anniversary soiree (May 13.) Ali & Isaac treated the entire crew to some omazing specialty cocktails while Aaron & Ophelia got their weekly chat on – and let’s just say this wasn’t a PG13 conversation. After recapping weeks filled with bear nights, court dates, car problems & concerts, the two dished what’s hot and happening locally & globally including changes at Hillcrest’s Eden, MicroSoft‘s $8.5 billion purchase of Skype, new HIV testing & treating campaign Lead The Way, RHONJ‘s season premiere and ChristWire‘s discovery of an “alarming” new trend in homosexuality: power bottoming. After containing our hysterical laughter, we brought back one of our favorite segments ‘Best of Craigslist‘ and threw in a couple doozies from Fail Blog and that other addicting site, Damn You Auto Correct. Then, Producer Bo hit us with some viewer questions before we finished off with local events such as the San Diego American Flag Football League‘s First Annual Flip Cup Tournament at R Gang Eatery, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Cupcakes & Champagne Reception at the Diversionary & the very important SOLD OUT Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. Get ready to laugh your ass off…and don’t forget to post some comments below! Read More

This week, Aaron & Ophelia sat down with Shannon Wagner the Executive Director of Being Alive San Diego, one of the city’s most encompassing HIV & AIDS direct service & support providers. The struggling economy has hit many non-profits very hard but Being Alive still forges ahead to provide peer advocacy, holistic care, moving assistance, support groups, educational seminars, food, grooming, ADAP/CARE/HIPP service enrollment and more to 3,000+ people infected and affected by HIV & AIDS. Approximately 80% of Being Alive clients live at or below federal guidelines for poverty. Shannon talked about Being Alive’s many caring programs and services, the growing needs of the clients they serve and how you, the community, can get involved through donating, volunteer opportunities, their new recycling program and their annual fundraising event, Soul Plates, which she surprised Aaron & Ophelia with a special request for a He Said / sHe Said-designed ‘plate.’ We’re absolutely honored.  Read More
